MakeMake Welcomes New Colorist Jacob McKee
MakeMake is thrilled to announce the official addition of Colorist Jacob McKee to their growing roster of talent at Primary.
Having worked as a colorist specializing in grades for features, commercials and music videos since 2019, Jacob was drawn to Primary because of the strong team and collaborative atmosphere. “Joining the Primary team, who are dedicated to delivering high-quality work supported by top-notch infrastructure, felt like the natural progression to better serve the evolving needs of our clients,” he says.
Notable projects in Jacob’s strong portfolio include Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour movie for Disney+, Billie Eilish’s Une Journée A Paris special for Amazon Prime, and Ivy Park x Beyoncé spots for Adidas.
Jacob’s approach to color grading is skillful and subtle — he credits this to his ability to let the footage shine. “I aim to respect the hard work put in by the production team, and work with the DP and director to find the film that’s in their heads,” he says. “I’m grateful that I get to work with talented folks that get things right in-camera, so when it comes time to grade it’s all about finding the nuances in the footage.”
With Primary, Jacob looks forward to collaborating with fellow creatives and founder Angus Wall agrees: “Jacob’s talent speaks for itself, and he is a forward thinking creative who’s an important part of the MakeMake ecosystem. The studio is psyched to see what kind of work we’ll all do together!”
When he’s not in the studio, Jacob finds inspiration by exploring his penchant for photography, experimenting with personal stills that often inform his professional work. He also enjoys attending classic film screenings, which he says help him to fill in creative blindspots as he crosses foundational films off of his watchlist.
